That was based on comments made on the board about people changing their mind due to the two WR trades I made. I don't even really remember exactly who, but several people expressed that they would be willing to switch now because of the team I assembled. They may have been kidding, but that was not the impression I took from the posts. No offense intended-- could also be my delusions of persecution acting up again...

Jim, I know that you, like me, have wanted to switch to an auction for years now.

My primary concern is with those (if they exist) who have changed their vote due to wanting to take apart my team. Given the amount of bitching that occurs whenever I make a trade, I don't think that my inference was too outrageous, either.

Thanks for the clarification. I know that you've worked hard to put your team together. It seemed to me that the iron was hot and therefore the time to strike. The irony could be funny, pun aside; although if one has to point out the pun then what's the use. You'd be sacrificing a lot but just for the sake of discussion, what would it take for you to go ahead with an auction? No obligations, I'm just curious.

I think that the whole point of an auction is to the open market establish player value. Rigging up some type of keeper rules would defeat the entire purpose, IMO. I remain in favor of a complete throwback/auction for 2005. For 2004, I would have wanted to know well in advance, as in last year this time. That way I wouldn't have made deals for draft picks for this year, and worked to get the players that I have.

I am going to be pretty negative about switching anything for 2004, I fear. It is just too close to the draft, IMO. I won't quit or anything, obviously, if we do change for 2004, but I won't be happy at all.

2005 still sounds great, though. Of course, if we wait to decide until late August again next year, I'll probably be opposed then, too. We need to get this set up a year in advance, really, so people can plan and adjust their in-season strategy accordingly (draft pick trades, etc.).

if were going to the auction next kind of kills the draft this year for teams rebuilding and if everyone is going back into the pool then this season seems like a lame duck..hopefully at the draft deadline things dont get whacky..

I'm with John, let's switch to the auction in 2005. I was opposed to the switch, but am slowing warming-up to it. I'd feel better if I had more time to research the whole procedure.

Good to hear from some more owners.

We will not change this year nor will we next. I would like to see that the desired results of all owners RECENT ACTIONS to manage their teams be given the chance to come to fruition.

Expect on draft day that we vote for a change to happen in the 2007 season. I believe the 2007 season will launch the second decade of our league so what better time to make the switch.

Continue of course to debate making the change or not. Do not debate the when... if we make the change it will be in 2007 (period)!

This will allow any team rebuilding now to have built that team and at least see the rewards for one or two seasons. If of course you are rebuilding now and still rebuilding in 3 or 4 years, then you should consider another Fantasy Sport to play...

If we make the switch in the 2007 season, then all owners will be on the same page with expectations, planning, research, etc... If ever we need new owners, then they will enter the league with the expectation of the change... no surprises.
I mean hey... all I ask is that you submit your damm line-up each week... otherwise... don;t complain... don;t quit... don;t have a lousy team... and pay your dues... is that too much?

And one final word to you Mr Hammer... in case you have not noticed... I was never a squishy turd on this issue nor did I ride the fence... from day one of this issue, as commish... I have not swayed from my decision to NOT make this change on my own nor make thge change without major majority vote from the owners (3/4 in favor.)

AS commish, I have spoken on behalf of all the owners representing those owners with strong teams NOW and those owners rebuilding. As commish, I can only assume it is more my job to represent the league as a hole and to never make any dictatorial decisions that have nothing to do with the integrity of the league.

Simply because you would commish a league differently does not make me a squishy turd or fence rider. If I let your wind filled posts to sway how I have chosen to handle this, then I would have become that squishy turd.

Da Commitch...

P.S. I love that I am being soooooo serious about being called a 'squishy turd'.. I love Fantasy Football

Mitch, would it be acceptable to vote at the draft this year as to when we make the change. Periods don't mean a lot to me on some days; today just happens to be one of those days. We'll have twelve owners present and can even make a ballot with multiple options. I can make you a sample and email it to you. Open-minded on this?

So...if we want to give owners' moves and hard work a chance to payoff, thus delaying the switch until 2007, what does that mean for all the hard work and dedication I pour into my team in 2006? The argument just doesn't make sense. No matter when we make the move, it will make the previous season's moves less important. Lets do the switch in 2005! One last hurrah for the traditional system! Can we put this to a vote before the keeper deadline? This final decision will determine the number of people I keep, (and may for others) so again, we need to finalize this before the keeper deadline.

I agree that we need to decide this pre-deadline. I also agree with the Commish's decision.

It would not make sense for you to put hard work into the 2006 season if you knew there was going to be a change... now that would not make sense... we had owners during this offseason who put in some work for this year and to rebuild for next WITHOUT knowing there would be a change... so...

Also... planning this change far in advance allows us to better control how much the previous season affects the next when we make the change... for example... by placing a freeze on including draft picks within trades...

I believe the commish did make a final decision and that is we will not switch this year or next... Clay mentions that deciding to switch next year would affect who he keeps this year... another great example of why WE should not switch this year or next and decisions such as making a switch and when should be made on draft day when all owners are present.

We need to decide the 'if' before we can decide the 'when'... deciding the 'if' is not going to happen before the deadline... so I am keeping players as if we are not going to change...
no need for a meltdown... there is always next week

The final decision:

We will not change this year.

A vote to make the change or not will be decided on draft day.

If we decide to make the change, when will be decided on draft day.

Jim - your idea is fine.

I propose the first ballot be,

"I would like the league to change to an auction/sc system by the 2007 season." If we get 10 yes votes, then we can vote on the when.

- looking back at the poll we took in March, I had asked for 9 yes votes then and that if the switch was turned down the next vote would take 10 yes votes -

We vote one season at a time until we get the number of needed votes. Obviously if we get to the 2007 season vote, we will have 10 yes votes given the results of the first ballot.

"I would like the change to occur for the 2005 season." 12 yes
"I would like the change to occur for the 2006 season." 11 yes
"I would like the change to occur for the 2007 season." 10 yes
