That's what I like about you, doodle. You're always willing to light a candle rather than curse someone elses darkness.

Good form,

J

Thanks J.

Frankly, I'm trying to save them some embarrassment. When you're 17 years old and you still have training wheels on your bike - people start to talk.

Fellow CAFFLer's...

let me ask you all this question... do you foresee yourself a part of this league for years to come? I do...

I have been in my other league going on 11 years now. We have a family ties division where two of the owners are dads and the other two are the sons... awesome!! We get a little turnover but the core of owners returns year after year. I know however that this league will never go auction/salary cap... Most of the owners consider it our 'old school' league keeping the scoring mostly basic...

I believe the CAFFL has the owners that will with stand the test of time. We are off to a pretty good start! And I feel we have that core of owners that will be around for those years to come.

If you feel as I do, then we should move to an auction/salary cap system. I know some of you may feel it will take more work, but really it doesn't. You will put as much work as you put into it now and will get the same results. You just have to think a little differently.

The point that hits home with that article I think is true 'ownership' of my team. Imagine - a rookie draft - where you can put that rookie on a practice squad to let develop over time without affecting your roster or salary cap. Getting that sleeper player you wanted instead of watching him get picked by somebody else - and you can;t do anything about it...

Let's do this next year... I say we balls out this year and start fresh next year. But we can figure out a way to keep players if needed.

This system would be great!!

Why next year? It seems to me that eventually we will have an auction so why put off to next year what we can just as easily do today?

The only people who really stand to lose if we change are those in a strong position for the upcoming season. Send up another poll and let's have some debate.

I'm telling you guys, once you try the auction you will wonder why you didn't do it years ago (not YOU guys obviously, I can tell you both support it).

Like the article said - it's the same amount of preparation, but just adds extra facets and extra possibilities to the game.

I'm with you Jim - I know da Commitch made statements earlier about resolving this issue until next year but I think if the owners agree to just do it this year... then who cares what da Commitch says.

I for one am going to start getting on the phone!!

I have wanted an auction for years, but it is too late to change things for this year. I want to see what my team can do. Let's do it next year.

Of course the guy who is a solid lock on winning the championship wants status quo.

It makes just as much sense as the guys with no chance wanting to shake things up.

Instigator! There is an instigator on the board!

Anyway, I know John's position is completely rational. I would be opposed to changing things if I had his team too. There are about three or four teams that are probably in the same position as far as having talent and leverage towards winning the title this year. However, everyone else seems to be throwing most of their teams back into the pool and starting over or else trading talent to try to get better draft picks. So, yes, I'll acknowledge that I am, as the instigating outsider intones, one of those with little to lose, but next year John and a few others will still have strong teams and the same conditions will exist and the same arguments towards preserving the status quo. We've got a month until the draft; would it really be that difficult to lay the groundrules and prepare for an auction?

Oilers: too funny... and you really have no clue of the CAFFL history.

John would rather not start this year given the work he has done in this offseason... why should he be penalized... and in case you missed it... John has wanted an Auction for years... whether his team was good or bad...

I have thought more about this as an owner and the commish and would rather we use this month to debate and get those owners who are leary to the switch to see the light.

Then if we can make a decision that we will do an aution next year... we can figure out some basics to the hows... and then play this year accordingly...

the fact that it is August 5th and we only have limited participation leads me to believe that we would not have time...

if we are in this for the long haul - then another year will not hurt.

Oops - I must be wrong. My apologies - John has no chance of winning the title this year. Am I now understanding the situation more clearly?

Hasn't he already laid the groundwork for next season? That was my take on the "John is genius" posting I saw. Then won't he be able to make the same argument next year?

Maybe when you guys decide to switch you should ease into things. Like the first year you draft every position but kicker and the kickers enter the auction. (Sarcasm for those who don't know)

In the end someone has to show some stronger leadership. I know I had to be dragged into the auction but it made for a stronger league. There are no democracies in FF.

Just a question, why is it so important to an outsider that the CAFFL go to an auction and why does he seem so irritated that we haven't? I like the input, but I'm just curious. Especially when the sarcasm starts to flow.

1.) Understood about John laying the groundwork for next year and heck, years to come... the point was that he did a lot THIS off season to get what he has so at least give him one year to reap the benefits...

2.) Sarcasm always taken and always appreciated - love the FF drama :)

3.) If I were just commish, I would do the switch. But also being an owner, I do not think it right to make that decision on my own. As an owner, I want the auction so making the sole decision made by me as the commish would be a biased one... and think that sacrafices some integrity of the league
