Hey fellas,

My fiance would like to start a casual book club to meet in Valpo. Any of you of course are welcome to get involved as we have some scholars in the bunch but I am also throwing this out for you to mention to your wives, girlfriends, sisters, etc...

Please mention this and if anyone is interested, please have them call Lisa at (219)874-3578.

Thanks,
Mitch

I can't read unless I am on the toilet. So, unless we have these book club meetings in my bathroom (or yours), I will have to pass.

Sounds like an LBJ meeting. Get yourself an edition of Uncle John's Bathroom Reader. Great trivial mindless reading.

And feel free to let your wife know.

I personally prefer an issue of SI while on the throne. Now that I am married, smut mags are pretty much out...

We won't be reading mushy chick books all of the time, will we? Anything by any of the Bronte sisters and I am outta there!

Heathcliff was a baddass! I actually enjoyed Wuthering Heights.

If you want some suggestions men will enjoy, read some Alexander Dumas. The Three Muskateers is one of my favorite books.

Stay far away from the Transcendalists (although some of the "dark" Transcendalists work was consumable). That's just bad stuff.

Just my 2 cents,

J

Lisa said they selected a murder/mystery book. I'll find out for sure.

Richard Russo is writing some good fiction. I'd also recommend most of John Irving's works: A Prayer for Owen Meany is hilarious.

I tend to read mostly fantasy and historical fiction these days. Currently waiting for book 4 of George R. R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire. Great author, great series for anyone interested in that genre...
